The trust supports financially individuals and organisations, e.g. orphanages and students, predominantly, but not exclusively, in South Asia and predominantly, but not exclusively people from the Himalayan regions, especially Tibetans.
Some projects with which we have been involved have been supported by us from the early 2000s. Others have been concluded, where, for example they involved the education of an individual who has now moved on, or where they were for on-off relief (e.g. relating to the tsunami in India and Sri Lanka in 2004/5).
We monitor projects carefully and where, for one reason or another, we cannot be sure they are working successfuly, we suspend support.
All of our funds go direct to the projects concerned. There are no salaries or expenses of any significance.
Examples of support we gave in 2023/2024:
Support for an organsiation started and run by a local man, providing health education for the local nomad population
Support for The Loden Foundation in Bhutan, which promotes social entrepreneurs, education and Bhutan's culture and traditions (since 2018)
Support for the Eliza and Robert Cauldwell Trust in Tamil Nadu, providing education and health projects, residential care for needy children etc. H&ART's donation goes towards the nursing college.
